PUT EVERYTHING INTO PLACE
one card at a time
OBJECTIVE:
Inspire undiscovered ELEMENT and CONNECTOR relationships to serve as a preliminary blueprint for your garden or yard.
This activity is outlined on INSTRUCTION CARD #13 of The Design Your Eden Card Deck
INSTRUCTIONS:
1.SORT THE ELEMENTS: Select the ELEMENT Cards already present in your outdoor space and ELEMENTS that resonate with what you'd like to feature in your outdoor space in the future. Arrange the chosen ELEMENT Cards on a table or flat surface.
2. CONNECT SPATIAL RELATIONSHIPS: Randomly place CONNECTOR cards among your selection of ELEMENT cards. Let them suggest diverse ways to sequence or combine the elements.
3. VISUALIZE: Contemplate the undiscovered spatial and thematic relationships between each of the selected ELEMENTS. Observe how the connector cards bring a new layer of order, function, or aesthetic to the design.
4. REFLECT: Take a moment to consider the choices you've made. Are there elements that now feel more essential than others? Do some connections inspire more excitement? This is a fluid process, and each design iteration brings you closer to your ideal outdoor space.
5. DOCUMENT: Use your phone or camera to snap a picture of the card arrangement OR translate the layout of ELEMENT and CONNECTOR Cards into a hand-drawn sketch. This provides more flexibility for adjustments and personal touches.
